The first 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros are arriving in the hands of happy users. One of them has decided to open his new computer to take a look inside. An interior very much in the Apple line with some appreciable changes. An interior that, as on other occasions, is striking for its clean and tidy design.
Steve Jobs has already commented on occasion that the company’s products were practically more beautiful on the inside than on the outside. It is clear that, externally, the design is impressive, but internally you can appreciate the engineering work behind the construction of these machines.
Luckily for us, we won’t have to open up our new computer to take a peek: Reddit user the_Ex_Lurker has taken care of that. In his post on the social network we can read that the opening of the new Macs “looks identical” to that of the models from between 2012 and 2016. Several pentalobe screws and some clips hold the back cover, now engraved with the words “MacBook Pro”, in place.
After removing this cover we have full access to the computer. Apparently the batteries are not glued to the chassis, but are held in place with an adhesive layer similar to that of the iPhone. A layer that can be removed by simply pulling it off and that will make battery replacement repairs simpler and easier. On these Macs the connection ports to the right and left of the computer are modular, which will allow for quick replacement.
The keyboard, on the other hand, is part of the same unibody body, which makes it significantly more difficult to repair. This fact should also come as no surprise. We may have the idea that a keyboard repair is simple due to the fact that we can touch it even from the outside, but seen from the inside it is the bottom piece, the last one, so the whole computer has to be removed before we can access it.
Both the 14-inch and 16-inch models feature two fans. Both are slightly larger than the ones we saw on the older 13-inch MacBook Pros, but at the same time smaller than the ones on the 2016 15-inch MacBook Pros.
The teardown also gives us a clear view of the huge size of the new speakers in these computers. Located in the lower right and left corners we can appreciate a membrane of considerable size. The speakers also have a force cancellation mechanism, so they can deliver power with almost no distortion.
All in all, I think we can say that the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro are really interesting inside. An interior that lets us see why these computers are so quiet and capable. A really nice interior.
