In another of its provocative moves against the U.S., Iran has built a model aircraft carrier on its southern coast for possible wartime ammunition attack tests. This is a replica of the “Nimitz” class aircraft carriers of the U.S. Navy, which usually patrols the Strait of Hormuz.
The replica has 16 model fighter planes on its deck, according to satellite photos. It appears to be about 200 meters long and 50 meters wide. A real “Nimitz” is over 300 meters long and 75 meters wide. The model is located a short distance from the parking lot where the Revolutionary Guard presented a hundred speedboats in May, which they usually use in the clashes between Iranian sailors and the U.S. Navy. They are equipped with mounted machine guns and missiles.
Intelligence analysts had been warning since January, after the death of General Suleimani at the hands of the United States, of the construction of this huge model.
Although the Iranian authorities have not recognized it, the appearance of a replica of the aircraft carrier “Nimitz” in the port city of Bandar Abbas would indicate that the Revolutionary Guard is preparing to repeat a sinking drill that it carried out in 2015. In February of that year, the guards carried out a military exercise called “Great Prophet 9”, and during that drill they attacked the model with boats firing machine guns and rockets and finally destroyed it with land-sea missiles.
