The British Ministry of Defence has recognised after a request for official information that it is carrying out selective killing missions with ‘Reaper’ drones beyond those so far confirmed within the operations in Iraq and Syria.

“The government must disclose where these drone departures are taking place and the purpose of these operations,” a spokesman for Drone Wars UK, Chris Cole, told The Guardian.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman has justified the failure to report on these missions “under Section 26 on Defence and Section 27 on International Relations of the Freedom of Information Act”.

“If published, this information would allow a better understanding of the Reaper’s operations by the public, but it could put sensitive and protected individuals at risk by giving the adversary an advantage,” he added.
