The United States reached 50,031 deaths from Covid-19 on Friday, with at least 870,468 confirmed cases of the disease, which has led to the confinement of most of the population and stopped most economic activities to prevent its spread.

According to the count conducted by Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, which collects data from official and private sources, the United States accounts for about 32% of the 2,736,468 cases of coronavirus infection worldwide and has suffered 26% of the 192,135 deaths from the disease on the planet. The number of deaths from Covid-19 in the United States is close to the number of casualties suffered by this country in the 10 years of the war in Vietnam, and is 16 times higher than the number of deaths caused by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

New York City, with over 16,280 fatalities, continues to be considered the epicenter of the disease, as it is the area hardest hit by the pandemic.
