The president of the United States, Donald Trump, attacked several Democratic legislators on Sunday, urging them to return to their countries of origin, which he described as “places infested with crime.

It is “very interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democratic Congressmen, who come originally from countries whose governments are a total and complete catastrophe, the worst, the most corrupt and inept in the world (if they have ever functioned as governments), now saying loudly and aggressively to the people of the United States, the largest and most powerful nation on Earth, how our government should be managed,” Trump said.

The president was referring to a group of legislators from the Lower House, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, who have had disagreements with the leader of the Democrats in that hemicycle, Nancy Pelosi.

Ocasio-Cortez was born in the U.S. but of Puerto Rican origin, while Tlaib has Palestinian roots and Omar was born in Mogadishu before arriving as a refugee in U.S. territory with her family. Donald Trump’s ancestors come from Germany.

In her tweets, Trump wondered “why don’t these women legislators return to their countries and help fix the completely broken and crime-infested places they come from. Then come back and show how it’s done. Those places need your help a lot, they can’t leave so fast. I’m sure Nancy Pelosi will be very happy to work out free travel arrangements.
