Agent Derek Chauvin was arrested Friday for his alleged responsibility in the death of African-American George Floyd when he was arrested last Monday in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a fact that has triggered a wave of protests in the country.

Minnesota Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington, quoted by local media, announced that Chauvin was arrested for his alleged role in Floyd’s death.

The agent appeared in a video recorded by passers-by when Floyd was arrested last Monday, in which he was seen with his knee pressing against the neck of the victim, who was complaining that he could not breathe.

Harrington did not specify the charges facing the police officer, who along with the three comrades who participated in the incident was expelled from the body, and merely stated that he is in the custody of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Justice.
