The New Zealand Ministry of Health announced on Monday that there are no active cases of COVID-19 registered in the country, after the last patient, a woman from Auckland, showed no symptoms in the last 48 hours.
Health Director-General Ashley Bloomfield said this was important news but stressed that “surveillance against COVID-19 continues and will remain essential.
The latest case was that of a 50-year-old woman living in a residence in the northern city of Auckland, according to the ministry’s report.
It has been 17 days since the last case was reported in New Zealand. In total, there have been 1,504 confirmed and probable infections and 22 deaths.
