The Islamic State does not even respect the holy month of Ramadan. At least 14 people were killed – including three women and two newborns – and 15 others were injured in a coward attack by the jihadist group on a maternity home run by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in the Hazara majority Kabul’s district of Dasht-e-Barchi (Shi’a branch of Islam).
The first two explosions were recorded at around 10 a.m. local time, causing total panic among the children’s hospital staff, said a paediatrician who managed to flee by jumping into the building next to the Tolonews television station. The witness said that at the time of the attack the hospital was full of patients and doctors.
The channel showed images of police officers evacuating more than 80 mothers and babies. Afterwards, a Fedallin-style commando with automatic weapons and explosive belts, several of them dressed in military uniforms, broke into the MSF NGO guesthouse for foreigners and faced gunfire from the security forces. After the assault, which lasted several hours, one could still see the columns of black smoke coming from the children’s hospital.
