The United States is experiencing an unprecedented historical moment. The first months of 2020 have put the health, economic and social stability of one of the world’s major powers to the test. Without forgetting that this is an election year and the management of President Donald Trump on all the open fronts that are challenging American society will be decisive when it comes to running for re-election when the population goes to the polls on 3 November.
But it is also in the most difficult moments when human beings have the opportunity to show their maximum potential and some take advantage of those circumstances to help others.
This is the case of the brother of the victim from Minneapolis whose death at the hands of the police has sparked outrage and protests in some thirty cities across the United States. Philonise Floyd launched a fundraising campaign on “GoFundMe” within hours of the tragedy to offer support to George Floyd’s family, so that they could cover the costs of the funeral and burial, medical and psychological care for their relatives, as well as lodging and travel to handle the legal proceedings. George Floyd was 46 years old with a daughter of six. His friends have recalled that the little girl was the engine of his life.
The fund, destined to George Floyd’s family, has exceeded 5 million dollars in less than three days.
