I just received an email asking for info about accounts, names, postions and any valuable info regarding a unpaid invoice. Scammers are just trying to get preliminary info from this company.

If we take the bait and the promise of payment of an invoice makes us give all that information, the scammers will continue to send emails until they know who is ordering the payments here.
Finally, they will impersonate that person and order the accountant to make a transfer to one of their accounts in China, Russia, Nigeria or any tax haven.

The email received is this one:

I’m Elizabeth from the Accounts Payable department at SCMG as our
records show that we owe an outstanding balance dating back to
12/12/2015.
This email is to request you for a copy of your company Account
Manager or HR email contact, so that we can clear the payment at
the earliest. First of all, apologies for the delay in payment.
The accounts team has been reshuffled and this case came to my
notice just an hour ago and I am writing to you immediately.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. We hope to continue
doing business with you in the future.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Wood
