The long-awaited new ‘Game of Thrones’ series, ‘House of the Dragon,’ has revealed its first (and brief) trailer, set to premiere in 2022 during the announcement of HBO Max’s new series. The series will be based on the book ‘Fire and Blood’ by George R.R. Martin (who is not listed as the writer of the series), and whose story will take place 300 years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’.
The series will focus on telling the story of House Targaryen, the beginning of its end, specifically, and the video confirms what we already knew: we will have dragons in abundance. We will know the story of Viserys, who has to take on a difficult challenge when he is chosen by the lords of Westeros to take the place on the throne of his grandfather, Jaehaerys Targaryen.
New inhabitants of Westeros
Among the cast, Paddy Considine, who we have recently seen in the first season of ‘The Visitor’, will play Viserys. He will be joined by Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, among others.
The showrunners of this new Game of Thrones series will be Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, director of acclaimed episodes of the classic series, such as ‘Battle of the Bastards’. Sapochnik will sign on to direct the pilot and other episodes. Condal will coordinate the team of writers who will write the ten episodes of the first season of ‘House of the Dragon’.
