After the little success of the Snapdragon 835 for laptops, the Snapdragon 1000 seems to be the first competitor for which Intel has to get nervous.

Windows on ARM has proven to be a much better project than Windows RT, which required a transition that the developers were not willing to undertake. Even so, the slowness produced by the emulation makes the ranges of low-power processors of Intel continue above, although chips such as the Core M continue to be criticized today.

The Snapdragon 1000 would be the answer to these problems, arriving with the new Cortex-A76 cores that will begin their production from the beginning of next year. They will add Cortex-A55 cores, already available in the market and in use for low consumption solutions and support for high performance chips. The most attractive thing is that the Qualcomm test PC they are using for the development has 16 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage and a new dedicated energy management chip.

It is early to know the effect that the Snapdragon 1000 will have on reality, but it could be that chip with low consumption and good performance, great autonomy and good connectivity that the PC world does not yet know. Even so, the most interesting thing about Windows on ARM is still unexplored: the possibility of full Windows 10 in a smartphone.
