Xiaomi unveils video game controller reminiscent of PS4, albeit with Xbox distribution
It’s been years since Xiaomi became one of the technological brands of reference and since then it has not stopped expanding into new markets. The company has launched everything from large TVs perfect for gaming to gaming mobiles, but on this occasion, it was its new video game controller that caught our attention.
The minimalist design of Xiaomi GamePad Elite Edition reminds us a lot of the DualShock 4, the successful PS4 controller, although with a very interesting change: the distribution of joysticks, crosshead and buttons seems to be inspired by the Xbox one. The joysticks are made by ALPS, the same as the DualShock 4, DualSense and Xbox One controllers, among others.
The Xiaomi GamePad Elite Edition places its directional sticks in an asymmetrical position, while the button layout shares nomenclature and position with Xbox (A/B/X/Y). The crosshead is presented as a directional pad similar to what we have seen in the Xbox X|S Series controllers or the Xbox Elite controller. In addition, it includes two triggers at the base of the controller in addition to the upper LB/RB/LT/RT/RT.
It also features six-axis InvenSense gyro sensor with haptic feedback, Bluetooth connectivity on the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands and will be “multi-system compatible” including Windows, Steam, Android TV-based Smart TVs and with Android devices such as mobiles and tablets, although we don’t know if it will be compatible with any consoles. The Xiaomi GamePad Elite Edition will arrive on the market with a price around $60 and the company will also market a support for phones compatible with the controller. We do not yet have a date or international price.
