There are few games that are as spectacular to play as those in the fantasy genre. Mages and knights battle against the forces of evil, and players can really immerse themselves in a brand-new world. One of the fiercest creatures often found in fantasy games is the dragon. These creatures often play a large part in the stories themselves, and are often the most challenging foes you will come across. In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the best RPGs featuring dragons.

Skyrim
One of the best video games ever, Skyrim comes top of our list. Part of the Elder Scrolls series, Skyrim is a massive role-playing game created by award winning developers Bethesda. Players can choose a class to join and then unlock numerous traits as the game progresses. From exploring ancient mountains to battling dragons, this is a fantasy epic that is popular with gamers of all ages. Although players are expected to kill dragons in the game, there is opportunity to ride them, and as the last Dragonborn you can also shout like them – which is pretty cool. Those who haven’t played this game yet would do well to buy the special remastered edition.

Dragon Age: Inquisition
Similar to Skyrim, Dragon Age: Inquisition has you battling dragons as opposed to teaming up with them. Published by EA, in this game you take on the role of the Inquisitor and are tasked with saving the world. The game is long, taking most players around 90 hours to complete, so you’re guaranteed to get plenty of playtime for your money. Plus, there are so many side quests that you could spend even longer playing it if you want to. Check out gameguideworld.net for strategy guides if you need them.

Spyro
No list would be complete without a mention of Spyro, the cute purple dragon. First released in 1998, there have now been more than ten Spyro games selling more than 20 million copies worldwide. Spyro was created for the PlayStation but is also available for Xbox and Nintendo consoles as well. The last game to be released in the Spyro series was The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon in 2008, but if you fancy a bit of nostalgia, these games are great!

Dragon’s Dogma
Released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2012, Dragon’s Dogma is a massive role-playing game set in an open world environment. Players can select between numerous vocations including sorcerer, ranger, knight, mage and warrior, and tailor their gameplay around their character. This game is similar to Skyrim in that the premise is dragons signal the end of days, and you need to fight them to save the world. That said, there are some amazing boss battles, and the dragon visuals are truly amazing.

If you’re a fan of the fantasy gaming genre, all of these games should be on your to-play list. Which one is your favorite? Let us know in the comments.
