Time magazine is presenting its lists of the best of the decade and now deals with video games, the best titles of the last 10 years.
The legendary American magazine has chosen Grand Theft Auto V as the best game of the decade. Since its release in 2013, it has sold 115 million copies and is still on many of the sales charts. The title developed by Rockstar North initially for PS3 and Xbox 360, then had editions for PS4, Xbox One and even PC.
Time ranks Grand Theft Auto V as the most financially successful entertainment product of all time (more, remember Gone with the Wind or the Star Wars saga). According to the magazine, “The cultural impact of Grand Theft Auto is difficult to quantify.
In second place, Time places The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a Nintendo title for Wii U and Switch. Third place went to Fortnite, Epic Games’ battle royale that remains the phenomenon of the moment.
From The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the magazine says that “Nintendo proved that it could create a more interesting open-world game than the competition. Freed from linear progression, players were free to explore Hyrule at their own pace and create their own adventures.
About Fortnite, Time recalls that “Epic Games made so much money and so fast that it was able to launch its own distribution platform”. The publication says the title has shown “frightened parents the addictive nature of video games”.
Fourth on the list is Dark Souls, a game from FromSoftware, and League of Legends, from Riot Games, is fifth. The list of the best video games of the decade in Time’s opinion is this:
- Grand Theft Auto V
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Dark Souls
- League of Legends
- Pokémon GO
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
- Portal 2
- Disco Elysium
