The Ukrainian team of Frogwares has announced its next video game, Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One. As its name invites you to think, it works as a prequel to Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments (2014) and Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter (2016). It will be available on PC, Xbox Series X, PS5, Xbox One and PS4 somewhere in 2021; and you can see a preview in the trailer below.
In this narrative research game, a young Sherlock Holmes will have to prove his worth as he explores a dangerous and exotic island to investigate the mystery of his mother’s death. The official description of the game reads in pages like Steam, where it can already be added to the wish list.
The game is inspired by what was seen and learned in The Sinking City, the previous Frogwares game set in the fictional universe of H.P. Lovecraft – we’ll have an open world to explore at our own pace, gathering clues and evidence to solve each case, talking to other characters or investigating different locations. Although this is a far cry from the weapons and cosmic horrors, the island where the game is set doesn’t seem particularly welcoming, as fellow citizens are subjected to the yoke of corruption and are hostile to outsiders.
