Mojang’s commitment to the ARPG genre has earned him a place at the top of Nintendo’s digital store in the United States, dethroning the popular New Horizons.
Minecraft Dungeons debuted last May offering fans of the legendary Mojang game a new formula: the world of Minecraft cubes becomes an ARPG Devil style, with a simplified but fun formula, which we can also enjoy with our friends or alone. The game was released on PC as well as PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, and it was on this platform that it reached a sales milestone: Minecraft Dungeons became the best-selling title in the US eShop, dethroning the popular Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Since its release in March, just as governments around the world were implementing restrictive measures to fight the coronavirus, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has enjoyed great popularity among gamers. It has since surpassed 4 million copies sold in Japan, making it the most successful video game sold since 2014.
However, New Horizons’ reign has been overshadowed by a strong contender: Minecraft Dungeons has managed to position itself as the best-selling game in the U.S. eShop.
