Last February, Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, put a big load on Android and the Google Store, as this platform takes 30% of the products sold on it, and that would include Fornite. He also harshly criticized “scary” pop-ups that contained a risk of viruses and malware.

You can now play for free on Android after a long wait. This has been confirmed by Epic Games in a statement to Polygon, although Google did not give up its 30% profit, and the independent platform used by Epic did not finish working, but it will continue to operate in the future.

Epic Games has finally given in to Google’s policies

“After 18 months of running Fortnite on Android outside of Google Play Store, we’ve come to a basic conclusion,” he begins. “Google puts downloadable software outside Google Play at a disadvantage, through technical and commercial measures such as repetitive and frightening security pop-ups for downloaded and updated software, restrictive agreements and arrangements by manufacturers and operators, public relations by Google characterizing third-party software sources as malware , and new efforts such as Google Play Protect to completely block software obtained outside the Google Play store”.

It seems that Epic Games is still harshly critical of this type of Google Play policy, even though they have finally decided to give their arm to the game. “Because of this, we’ve launched Fortnite for Android in the Google Play Store. We will continue to operate the Epic Games application and Fortnite outside of Google Play as well. In order to play it, you only need 45 MB minimum space on your phone for the launcher and have Android version 7.1 or higher. The full game will take between 1.14 GB and 1.76 GB with additional downloads.

The Fortnite success story continues to add up. Despite the hard battle, its launch in Android is a reality. The frontiers of the free battle royale of PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC and iOS are finally opening to the masses with its arrival at Google, although let’s remember that it was already possible to play it on Android from the independent platform of Epic Games
